On Programming Languages

The idea for this class was to go beyond animation and the idea of creating blocks of code to perform some action, to actually delve into programming that is universal to the language used to teach the concepts. The popularity of programming languages come and go: yesterday was C++, then Java, now Python, but computer programming is universal. So if someday (or today) you take what you learn and use it when learning another programming language of your choice, our goal was met.

Scratch Basics

Sprite = character in Scratch program

 

Script = what character is programmed to do in Scratch

 

Stage = background or backdrop to what Sprites do in Scratch
